Lisa Deans nomination for Bournemouth Volunteer of Year-News-28.5.15

CONGRATULATIONS TO LISA DEAN – Volunteer nominated for the Mayor of Bournemouth’s “Volunteer of the Year Award”

Lisa is an unpaid Volunteer for Mosaic has been a committed volunteer for us for over 5 years leading the teenagers at camp and supporting many of our fundraising events and activity days where children begin to learn to smile again. Lisa received a certificate from The Worshipful the Mayor of Bournemouth – Chris Mayne on 18th May 2015 at the Mayor’s Parlour.

Lisa works full time as a PA for an aerospace engineering company, yet still finds time to dedicate herself to the bereaved children and teenagers.  Lisa has a natural affinity with young people which is hugely important in engaging with reluctant teenagers.  The residential camp is very intense to begin with as the teenagers reluctant to talk and share but with Lisa’s calm but fun approach they quickly settle down and begin to trust others in sharing their grief story.  Feedback from the teenager group -“This weekend has been great; It’s taught us different skills to help with our emotions.
We are all leaving today feeling a lot better and with a lot more friends who understand what we are going through.”

In addition, Lisa uses her work connections in Bournemouth to promote the Mosaic service and to encourage more fundraising.  If there is a fundraising event going on then Lisa is the first to volunteer.

Lisa is a star volunteer – we couldn’t do without her!
